The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has written a document this year entitled
Sing to the Lord, Music in Divine Worship. The Bishops of our country say "it is our duty and our joy as Shepards of the Church to guide and oversee liturgical song in each particular Church.

Liturgy is the source of the Church's prayer and action, and the summit by which our lives and all of our ministries ascend to the Father. The purpose of the document is to draw all who worship the Lord into the fullness of liturgical, musical prayer.

The Christian Hymn of New Life in Christ does not cease when a liturical celebration ends. Christ, whose praises we have sung, remains with us and leads us through church doors to the whole world, with its joys and hopes, griefs and anxieties. The words Jesus chose from the book of Isaiah at the beginning of his ministry have become the song of the Body of Christ. "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has annointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord. (Like 4:18)
